The Museum of Food and Drink has just funded its firstpop-up exhibit: BOOM! The Puffing Gun and the Rise of Breakfast Cereal. They easily reached their $80,000 goal via Kickstarter, and have received lots of positive press from the likes of The Fast Company, Popular Science and Food and Wine.
The MOFAD is being spearheaded by Chef Dave Arnold and Peter Kim, a former corporate lawyer and current Executive Director. Dave is the Founder and President of the Museum of Food and Drink (MOFAD) and widely considered a thought leader in the culinary world. Peter has also served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Cameroon (where he created a rural arts-based public health program), and as an Emerson Fellow for the Congressional Hunger Center.
This exhibit contains a 1.5 ton machine that explosively puffs ingredients under high heat and pressure. You can watch a video of the exploding rice puffs here.
Eventually, MOFAD endeavors to have a brick and mortar food museum in New York City, and I’m very excited about this project. Incidentally, you can contribute a tax deductible pledge at boom.mofad.org.
